Achievements In Legislation
Welfare Reform
Facilitated the introduction of AFIS (Automated Finger Imaging System), a biometric system which prevents individuals from defrauding the welfare system by assuming more than one identity; also guided implementation of EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer), to replace food stamps with credit card technology. Both systems, working together, have saved Arizona taxpayers tens of millions of dollars by reducing fraud and transfer of illegal benefits.
Premium Sharing Demonstration Project
Sponsored a project which allows the working poor to purchase health coverage through subsidized premiums from tobacco tax - a tremendous benefit for the working poor with no additional cost to taxpayers.
Education Reform
Advocated a variety of measures to increase the quality of education through direct competition.
Government Efficiency
Worked to increase government efficiency and to reduce waste of valuable taxpayer resources in multiple areas.
Judicial Reform
Advocated a strengthening of the judicial review process by including members of the legislative branch in the Review Commission; initiated changes in ballot format to demarcate judges who are below performance standards.
